Dua Lipa is a British recording artist whose Pop and Dance hits have topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Born in London to Kosovo Albanian parents, Dua Lipa was raised and went to school in London and Kosovo. The Pop singer attended the Sylvia Young Theater School, as Amy Winehouse had done, until age 13. At seventeen, Lipa’s demos attracted the attention of Lana Del Rey’s management, who took her on.

Her debut single “New Love” was released in 2015. Over the course of the next year, Lipa was long-listed for BBC’s Sound of 2016, completed a tour and released three more singles and appeared in the U.K. Top 20. In 2017, Lipa’s three singles “Be the One”, “ Scared to Be Lonely” with Martin Garrix and “No Lie” with Sean Paul charted on the U.K. Top 15 simultaneously. In summer 2017, Lipa released her debut album, Dua Lipa, which featured duets with Miguel and Coldplay’s Chris Martin and included the single “New Rules” which would rise to the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Other collaborators include K-pop girl group BlackPink and producer Diplo.

In 2019, Lipa won the Best New Artist Grammy Award and her single “Electricity” garnered the Best Dance Recording Grammy, multiple Brit Awards and MTV Europe Music Award. During the 2019 Grammy Awards, Dua Lipa and St. Vincent performed a duet mashup of their respective songs “One Kiss” and “Massseduction” bridging the two tunes with a quote from “Respect”, the Otis Redding song made famous by Aretha Franklin. When asked about her inspirations, Dua Lipa names P!nk, Nelly Furtado, OutKast, and Prince and says that she is excited by the work of her contemporaries Tierra Whack, Lizzo and Billie Eilish. In Autumn 2019, a British Vogue interview stated that Lipa’s sophomore album, , Future Nostalgia, would be released in “a matter of weeks.”
