🎉Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month All Year Long🎉
Hispanic Heritage Month begins this Friday – and to celebrate, TeachRock will be showcasing materials that focus on the role Hispanic culture and history have played in the United States. But not just for a month – for the entire school year!
From now through next June, TeachRock will highlight resources from our newest unit plan, Latin Music and Culture in U.S. History. Closely aligned to High School Social Studies standards, this collection examines how Latin musicians such as Johnny Pacheco, Celia Cruz, Lydia Mendoza, Astrud Gilberto, Alice Bag, Rita Moreno, Bad Bunny, and more have influenced American culture and provided unique perspectives on American history.
The unit focuses on four themes – migration, cultural connections, xenophobia, and activism – and examines how musicians and musical styles have approached one or more of the themes in U.S. History. Check out the unit here.
For Elementary teachers and students, we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by sharing resources from our updated LADAMA: Movement, Music, and Community in South America lesson collection. Made in collaboration with music group LADAMA, these lessons get early elementary students dancing, singing, and moving to a variety of South American musical styles. Throughout the year, we will be diving into the amazing updates we’ve made to this collection, from bilingual flashcards to activities for general music classrooms.
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to all!
