TeachRock Tennessee: A Success Story

TeachRock’s newest Partner School, Red Bank Middle School in Chattanooga, TN has shared an exciting update on the impact of TeachRock’s new Social Emotional Learning Mini Lessons.

Red Bank Principal, Dr. Ginger Frady, reports that this TeachRock content has been transformative for her campus. Our TeachRock Lessons are delivered to Students at Red Bank during their 12 minute homeroom period. This allows Red Bank Teachers to work with small groups of 10-12 students each day and provides a shared experience for students and staff.

During these brief but impactful sessions in the last month, students have explored the concepts of Cultural Identity, Growth Mindset, Resilience, and also learned about the cultural and musical journey of Muddy Waters.

Dr. Frady shared that these lessons set the tone for each day and that students are eagerly talking about TeachRock SEL Lessons in the hallways, at the lunch tables, and in their classrooms.

In one recent lesson, students learned about the cultural significance of totems and tikis and explored the idea of personal symbols. They were challenged to create their own personal design using traditional animal symbolism.

According to Dr. Frady, students thoroughly enjoyed the process and learned about themselves and their classmates through this project. “TeachRock has promoted impactful shared experiences and common language. Seeing our Red Bank Middle School Students having these sorts of meaningful conversations has been so powerful. They are so engaged in these lessons and are excited about TeachRock!”

The Red Bank staff, students, and all of us at TeachRock share immense gratitude for all of you who have donated to make this work possible.
