Essential Question

What other projects can students develop to showcase their Life Songs Interview?

Overview

This lesson provides alternate activities and options for classrooms interested in the Life Songs Project, but lack the capacity to create video clips. Presented are three alternative capstone options for students, along with associated handouts and rubrics. Teachers may assign one or more of these options to students, students may choose which option to complete from a list (or any combination of of the two).

Objectives

Know (knowledge):
- The process of creatively displaying an interview using visual mediums such as album covers, slide shows, or timelines
Mastery Objective:
- Students will be able to transform the raw footage or notes from their Life Songs interview into a final version by using art supplies or digital editing and/or slideshow creating programs.

Activities

Activity A: Personalized “Greatest Hits” Album

Distribute to students Handout – “Greatest Hits” Album Project. Ask students to fill out the handout using the notes or footage they took while interviewing their adult.
Using art supplies or digital editing tools, ask students to design the album cover, using Handout – “Greatest Hits” Album Project as a guide.
Optional: If students will be pursuing another activity, ad a QR code or link on the album cover so it acts as a “gateway” to another project.

Activity B: Slide Deck Presentation

Distribute to students Handout – Slide Deck Project. Ask students to fill out the handout using the notes or footage they took while interviewing their adult.
Using art supplies or digital editing tools, ask students to design their slide deck, using Handout – Slide Deck Project as a guide.

Activity C: Timeline Presentation

Distribute to students Handout – Timeline Project. Ask students to fill out the handout using the notes or footage they took while interviewing their adult.
Using art supplies or digital editing tools, ask students to design their timeline, using Handout – Timeline Project as a guide.

Grading

Use the the Life Songs Rubric document to evaluate student projects, or provide the appropriate rubric for student self-assessment.
