Marty Stuart Performance & Conversation: Country Music and Culturally Responsive Education for All with TeachRock

Country Hall of Famer Marty Stuart began his professional career at the age of 13, when he moved from Philadelphia, MS to Nashville to join the band of Lester Flatt. Before Stuart was of modern drinking age, he’d been in Johnny Cash’s band too. In the several decades since, he’s established himself as a hit songwriter, master performer, and an emissary for Country Music writ large. In 2023, Stuart joined 13 other marquee artists of all genres on the Artist Council of Steven Van Zandt’s Teachrock.org. Stuart will dialogue with TeachRock executive director Bill Carbone and Chicago principal Melissa Sweazy about what it means to be culturally responsive in rural and urban locales, and Stuart will punctuate the conversation with a few songs as well.

Recorded at the National Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference, Dec. 2, 2023 at Music City Center, Nashville, TN.
