This Saturday is Earth Day! To celebrate, we’re showcasing new lessons throughout the rest of the month that acknowledge, honor, and advocate for our natural environment.

Our little Earth Day mascot this year was drawn by Brazilian artist Henrique Gomes, and is part of the resources now available for the new and improved lesson Joropo: Music Inspired by Nature from the High Plains of Venezuela. 

In the lesson, members of the music group LADAMA teach students to sing and dance Venezuelan Joropo, while also discussing how the music is inspired by the animals found in the Venezuelan High Plains.

In addition to updates making the lesson more aligned with early elementary classrooms, the lesson now includes new resources, including Spanish-English flashcards and musical transcriptions.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to sing and dance?
