Overview

Through ten lessons, students will explore different people, music, events, and places that helped shape Latin music and culture in the United States.  Students will discover how Latin Music like Salsa, Latin Rock, Tejano, Bossa Nova, Swing, and Chicana Punk reflect the experiences of Latin people living in the United States throughout history.

Along with the activities in the lessons, students will complete two benchmark assignments.  After lesson six, students will create a fictional person and write a narrative about their migration journey based on the information covered up to this point in the Unit.  The Unit concludes with the opportunity for students to explore and become engaged with a Latin cultural institution or organization in their community.
